Language Lost, 2021, Porcelain paper slip, burned out organic material, linen, velvet

In 2007 the Oxford Junior Dictionary removed about 50 words connected with nature and countryside in their newest edition. As I looked at the list of words, I thought about the growing distance from people and the plant world. How can we talk about that which we have no words for? Language Lost consists of the remnants of organic material which were dipped in porcelain slip and fired. A hollow cast of ceramic representing a word removed is left behind. Stored in boxes with an empty metal tag, the deathly white porcelain is reminiscent of bleached coral or animal bones.
